1797 French sea chart of Northern California, including San Francisco Bay
Carte particulaire de la Côte du Nord-Ouest de l'Amerique, 3e Feuille
Jean François Galoup, Comte de la Pérouse
50 x 69 cm (19.7 x 27.2 in)
Attractive and important large chart from La Pérouse's Voyage autour du Monde. This is the third sheet of La Perouse’s examination of the west coast of what is now the United States; this chart covers the coastal area between 46° and 36° north from Monterey to Cap Rond.
It is in bare outline except for Monterey (which La Pérouse actually visited), Cape Mendocino (where a volcano is noted), Cape Blanc and Cape Rond, all of which have some topographic detail shown. The is also a rough outline of the entrance and Port de St. Francis (San Francisco).
The map charts the course which the ships traveled.
Overall wear with some discoloration.
