1886 Map of California with large inset of San Francisco
County Map of the State of California

Original hand coloring
Attractive map of California from the second half of the 19th century. Counties are depicted by color, with a number of old county lines, especially in southern California, where we see both San Bernardino and San Diego County extending to the eastern border of the state.
This is really two maps in one; the large inset of the city of San Francisco divided by wards offers a wealth of detail, including railroads and streetcars, businesses, parks, water works, and more.
Decorated with an elegant linear border that predates the busy vine-motif border that was added to subsequnet editions.
