1850 Hesse - Sacramento in Californien
Gold Rush view of Sacramento
Sacramento in Californien: Des Auswanderers Hoffnung.
41 x 29 cm (16 x 11.5 in)
This is a rare c. 1850 German lithograph view of Sacramento, California. The map depicts the city of Sacramento from the waterfront on the Sacramento River towards the city down J Street. Numerous buildings are illustrated along the waterfront and along J Street, as well as workers and their horses. Buildings materials are stacked along the shoreline at the lower right. Various kinds of ships are moored along the riverfront, including sailing ships and a sidewheel steamship. Rowboats are used to ferry people and goods from the ships to the shore. Two American flags are flying from two of the ships. A Chilean flag flies from the mast of one of the other ships moored along the shoreline.
This view was printed by J. Hesse around 1850 and published by a German magazine.
Very good, blank on verso.
